Got a Question about Cable Boxes, Can you help?

Okay..my friends and i wanna do this experiment, we are in One state but neighboring counties, so if i take My cable box and exange it with HIS.. will it work?

(we have an activated service from the SAME cable company)

  1. I know it will work with satellite service with the same providers (at least for basic programming but not local affiliates). This works because the feed is the same no matter where you go - it's all from the same satellites.

    I would imagine, however, that it's not the same for cable programming solely for the fact that each area has their own broadcast source. It's likely that your cable boxes would not recognize the signal, or even recognize it as being from a different area if they were to be swapped.


  2. it will work if you are in the same zone. I am a cable tech in atlanta and there are basically two zones for the metro atlanta region. there are several counties in each zone. I work for comcast and they are called headends. you could ask the cable company what headend or main staion your address is in and see if it is the same as your friend. if it is not the same headend it may work for some basic channels but any premium packages or pay per view will most likely not work.
