  1. I had the same problem

Tell the nurse you hate needles.

They will lie you down and keep talking to you.

Being led down will stop you fainting. Don't look at the needle. Worked a treat for me.

  2. Blood Tests have changed a lot in the last year or so. They no longer use the normal syringes, but now use a new, smaller one that lets them take a blood sample without having to "syphon" it out. So, don't worry ... it's will not be anything like your last one. Make sure you let the nurse know what happened last time, and make sure you sit still in the chair for a couple of minutes afterwards, just in case. I don't think Lucozade would be of much benefit. So, go along tomorrow and don't worry!

  3. Tell the person taking blood, lie down before during and after and yes Lucozade is a good idea .

  4. Don't look at the needle going into your arm - but have a glance at it beforehand. That way, if it seems intimidating, you can congratulate yourself afterwards on tolerating the ordeal.

Also, while waiting to get blood drawn, do some deep, slow breathing. This will help circulate seratonin in the brain - the feel-good chemical.

Before the needle goes in, try chatting for a short while with the person doing it to help you relax. Tell them it makes you nervous.

    Good luck.

  5. stop being such a whimp and get on with it.
