The house doesnt have a deck, so I was thinking about something like putting a small fence around it like a cafe to keep my grill and patio furniture. Need to spruce it up though because its just ugly plain white concrete.

  1. Sounds like a good basketball half-court to me ;-)

  2. Build an outdoor kitchen and bar for entertaining.

  3. put a garage  or shed on it.

  4. Put a pool on it or a gazebo.  Also, a  nice canopy with zip/close sides is nice to prevent insects (mosquitos!), if you live where they are bothersome.

  5. If I were you I would build a fire pit out of cinder block in a rectangle, or square shape. You can use the 6" x 8" x 16" cinder block to build it with. Since you already have a slab to build it on, make sure that you place a couple pieces of 1" to 11/4" pvc pipe through the first course at slab level so that when it rains the pit does not fill up with water.

I would consider buying or making a nice water feature also with some accent lighting for a nice pleasant sound to kick back and listen to while you have a nice fire going in the fire pit.

If you can bring in some 110 power to the side of the slab so that you can run the water feature's pump and also have a power place to plug in your stereo for some nice music.

A small 4' high fence around it should give you enough privacy to fully enjoy your cafe scene.

Imagine that you can now bar b q  and roast marshmallows while relaxing in it.

    Hope this helps

  6. sounds like you got it going-maybe paint the concrete to add color

  7. Yes, that sounds like a good idea.  Maybe you could put some potted plants around it to camouflage it a bit.  You could maybe also put a gazebo on it.  I think there are a lot of nice things you could do to spruce it up.

  8. It all sounds nice but the only thing I would add is instead of painting it why not refinish it with colored concrete. that way you don't have to repaint.

And just maybe a short wall facing west to act as a leanto support for quick  rainshowers.
