Does a senior citizen at age 68 have to go to a jury duty when summoned by a letter received from the mail ?

No matter what age still has to go ?

What about a medical issue like having a hard time hearing.

Thanks

  1. You should speak to the county clerk. But i dont think you would be able to if you have an hearing aid. They dont allow them in courts.

  2. There are exceptions.  Contact your county clerk's office.

  3. Just show up for the screening and make sure they can tell you have hearing loss  ;)  and they'll send you home.

  4. yes there is an age limit on it,you can go if you want to or sumit a birth certificate to the judge to be exempt, hearing is very important to be on a jury,so if you are hard of hearing, youll need a letter from a dr. saying  so, any medical condition like bad kidney s or the like can  make you exempt

  5. You have to attend unless you have a serious disability medically or circumstances (death in the family) beyond your control. No one is excused based upon age or position (doctors and firemen and policemen used to escape easily).

You will have to go to the pool. If you are not picked, you are done. However, if you are chosen for a jury then you must sit through voir-dire, which is where the lawyers ask you questions and see if they want you on a jury. That would be the time to bring up your lack of hearing.

If you are excused for cause, you will not be called for that particular type of jury again. (Federal, state, local all have different pools and you can be called for all three.)

And, wait a minute, I thought seniors live for jury duty and early-bird specials.

    Hmm.

  6. note from the doctor will work if u dont have one talk to the crown first

  7. if you can vote you can serve. they can give you a device to amplify the sounds. use some other excuse

  8. I have never personally been called, but my sister did and she told the people that she is prejudice and that the person as guilty and they let her go. So she didnt have to serve.

  9. I imagine this all depends on the county in which you reside.  Your best bet is to call the courthouse and voice your concerns.  They will be able to tell you for sure if you need to show up or not.
