It's an 18' catamaran. yellowish. has a black tramkpoline. Looked into the hull.. no foam, all hollow. I thought there would be foam in it. I have a sail made by the Patterson sail company. Has a big symbol of a "P" and maybe a letter "4" incorporated into it on the left side. This same symboli is on the frame of the rutter..could be after market stuff? can't google any Patterson catamaran. according to the sail, the company is out of Newport beach..or is it Hamilton, no I think Newport. Looks like a Hobie 18, but there is no written indication of that. Thanks

  1. In Texas you can go to the tag office and register it as a home maid Boat you will need the Length, width, and Capacity. you will receive a Title in 4 to 6 week,s

  2. Won't you need some of that info when you go to register your boat for the water?

Just be careful with the time, money and safety issues with this "gift".

Its nice to get a free boat, but by the time you spend countless hours making repairs and sinking money into it, many people wish they could go back and just invest in a sound vessel.  Not to mention the sea worthyness of it and safety.

  3. It could be one that was built privately using the builder's own design or even possibly from a kit.  There are a number around that were simply built by someone who knew how to do it, and this could be the case with yours.

  4. Sounds like a Prindle, I used to own one.

    John

  5. Should have gotten a title with it, no? I'd be on that cause you have to register all water craft over a certain size.

  6. Chad, it is a  PRINDLE catamaran. Great boat, just never caught on like the Hobies.  That's what the "P" on the sails and Rudder means...denoting the class of catamaran.  It is only coincidental that the sails are Pattersons...simply a Sailmaker.

I am surprised there isn't a hull number stamped into it somewhere...

I doubt it is hull #4 going by the four on the sail...

    Check with the Class here:

Have fun...can be a squirly boat!!!
