  1. Everything sounds good to me. My last betta I had lived in a tank just like yours and it was fine. They actually like small tanks. He looks cool!

  2. He should be fine but Bettas shouldn't be kept in smaller tanks for a long time because it can hurt the fish and cause them to have a shorter lifespan.

As for the food, don't feed him more than he can eat. put one in at a time and if he eats it, put in another. If he doesn't, use a net to fish it out and try feeding him later on in the day.

  3. yes thats fine. betta fish do not need alot of space. food plan sounds fine. the food package may say how to feed him. yes please clean the water every week. set a certain day of the week like every sunday u will clean it out.

  4. wtf at walmart 10 gallon tanks are like 10 bucks

  5. sounds good 2 me

  6. you definetly dont need a 5 gallon tank for him.  all we had was a little container, it looked like a flower vase and it had plants growing over the top of it so the fish can eat the roots.  we also had the fish food.  the only reason why ours died was b/c my mom fergot about him one day while the rest of us weren't around.  the tank should definetly be big enough.  just make sure u feed him every day.

he looks good in the pics, though.  i think we cleaned our tank like once a week too.

One more thing to make sure of!!!... dont put another fish of any kind in there!!!  doesnt matter if its a gold fish or another betta fish!!!  b/c the betta fish will eat the other fish.  its really weird but it does happen.  If you happen to get another one, make sure they are in seperate tanks.

i love betta fish.  they are soo beautiful.  ours was a dark blue one.  keep up the good work!!!

hope i helped!!!  (and sorry my answer was soo long)

  7. Every time I go in to answer a Betta question I see the same 'ol c**p!

    1. Your Betta NEEDS an aquarium of at least 5 gallons. The misconception that they only need a small amount of space is INCORRECT and CRUEL. Just like you can't keep a Great White in an enclosure, you CAN'T keep a betta in a half gallon of water and expect it to be happy.

    2. You CAN put your Betta in with other fish. There are only TWO types of fish you can't put him in with. The first is another MALE Betta, only add a female if you plan to breed. And even then, you're inexperienced with fish, so please don't attempt this. The second is all types of Cichlids, with the exception of the "Ram" varieties, which are peaceful in temperment.

  8. Only feed him 3 balls every day to every other day.

  9. It would be in his best interest to upgrade to a larger tank in the future. Otherwise you seem to be doing fine. If you want to keep him happy and healthy, vary his food. I give my betta's betta flake with blood worms every night before I go to bed. Then every few days I mix it up and give them flake mixed with daphnia and crushed gammorus with a bit of tubeworm. Like people pets get sick of food too. Just make sure you keep his tank clean too so that he doesn't contract paracites or anything, a tank that small has to be cleaned often.

  10. hey dont sweat!! but i suggest you get a filter at ur wal*mart cuz it helps cleanse the water and its small too! all u have to do is put the small foam piece through the top lid and let it run! plus feed the fish at least 3 or 4 times a day. fish like it wen they dont eat much. that also helps clean the water.

  11. You are doing everthing right with your new fish. Betta fish dont really need that big of a tank.

  12. Haha dont get a 5 gal tank. beta fish are supposed to be kept in a small tank ( like the one you have ). just make sure you dont put anyother fish in with him, it could turn out BAD.

  13. just keep the water clean and feed it daily but not too much.  from the pics, the fish looks good.  good luck.

  14. Everything seems pretty good, Ive had 3 betta fish, and they only had a 2 litter tank. Also our betta fish liked to have a mirror next to their tank. I dont know y but it did. Also  NEVER PUT 2 OF THEM IN A TANK TOGETHER THEY WILL KILL EACH OTHER.  A betta fish is also known as A JAPANESE FIGHTING FISH, WHICH MEANS THEY HATE BEING WITH OTHERS. Thats pretty much all u need to know. P.S our last beta fish dies cause my little brother over fed it. so make sure u only give ur fish a couple of the little fish food dot things

  15. i am a fish expert and the best tank for a betta is a 10 gallon tank but your tank will still work. And the plant is to pointy

  16. Once you do get him a bigger tank, youcan give him some tankmates. Live hatchet fish or any reasonable sized non-colorfull fish.Good jopb so far with Tim!=)

Edit-Bettas do not NEED 5 gallons of water, and I thihng a male betta needs at least a gallon, so you might wate to upgrade tim, but females can live fine in a half gallon. Some of the best betta breeders in the WORLD use half gallon contaiers to keep there bettas in when not spawing. And they produce BEAUTIFUL betta fish. I am just starting breeding betta fish, and I find that bettas can do just as well in a small container as a large 5+ gallon one.
