I drive a truck for a living class "A", and recently got a speeding ticket in romulus mi for 71 in a 60 on 275N. How can I fight it or have the points removed off my record? As this is my job, I cant have the 3 points on my record, not to mention what that would do to my insurance costs!

  1. maybe you should take up plumbing

  2. Fight it you can't, unless you can prove the cops speed calibration was off.  but attend the drivers ed to get rid of the points and to get your insurance back down.

  3. If the three points are that serious I would seek legal advice. From past experience, I have had a couple of speeding tickets in New Jersey. I have gone to court, without a lawyer, and spoke to the prosecuter and have successfully gotten the speed reduced to a lower speed. In two instances I had gotten the tickets lowered to careless driving, which is no points just higher fine and the other lowered to a cell phone ticket, which is also a higher fine.

  4. Hello Big Maggs,   As an officer I understand how hard it is to get CDL's and I know what a citation can do as well for your CDL's. Let me help if I can. Hopfully your driving history is not too bad. If this is your first citation ever or within 3 yrs. things are not so bad.  When you go to court take around $ 300.00 bucks with you ( CASH ). If you were polite and coorperative with the Trooper or officer the morning of your court date go speak with the DA. See if he/she will let you plea to an improper equipment charge. Let them know your job depends on your CDL's and if you are charged with this it may cost you your job. Even if it doesn't mean your job, make it sound like it. If you understand what I mean !  If the DA allows this, when the judge ask if you have anything to say. Tell him/her that you know there is no excuse for speeding but would ask the court to show mercy this time. Now, let's look at this citation in another way in case your driving history sux !  If you have a speeding citation that shows up within 3 yrs. talk to the DA and explain the job deal as mentioned above,  here again tell the judge there is no excuse for speeding and ask the court for mercy. If the DA will not allow that ask if he/she will let you plea for a PJC. This is a " Pray for Judgement Call ". Meaning the court will let you by on this citation and pay a fine but if you get another citation within 5 yrs. this citation and the one you get will go against you at the same time and your insurance will almost tripple. The court fine will be double as well. I don't know of any other way to handle this citation unless you know somebody that works in the court system. Maybe they could have some pull if you know what I mean.  Good Luck Buddy, I hope this helped !
