Got a virus, want to start again.?

Question

How do I get into bios from boot up, format c drive and get the p.c to read the cd rom, so I can re-install windows XP.

F8 when you see the boot screen tap F8  last known good hit enter maybe (or put disk in would you like to install windows yes) backup anything you want to save or go to you hard drive manufacture and download the software to wipe the drive Seagate or your drive manufacture  Seagate  writes 1 then writes 0 to the drive  (new drive) then install windows

to get into the bios press either the delete key or one of the F keys which it normally says to enter setup press the whatever key it is and your going to need to do this before the windows XP screen shows up next thing you would need to do is look around in the bios for the boot order and go into that and make sure that your CD drive is at the top of the list which there will be directions on how to do that on the screen make sure that you save before you leave so it saves the new settings then you will want to put in the xp disc restart the computer after exiting the bios of course and it should say press any key to boot from disc  press any key on the keyboard follow along and make sure you put on a fresh copy and not do a restore

To format your hard drive, you'll need to download DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke) to wipe your hard drive first. You can find that here: http://www.dban.org/

Once you burn that ISO file to a CD, enter your BIOS and change the setting so that the FIRST boot device is your CD/DVD reader so that you can insert your DBAN CD to wipe your hard drive. Then save your changes and exit. Before the computer restarts, insert the DBAN CD. You can just do a simple 1-pass quick wipe on DBAN because your Windows CD is just going to re-format and partition your hard drive again anyways. Once DBAN finishes, insert your Windows CD and restart your computer. Then follow the instructions to install XP and your all set.
