(the ins adjustor) estimate repair damage lower then my private auto body shop? Can I bargain with them or ask for what the private body shop estimated and give me that amount in a check? I know I can accept the adjustor's amount in a check today, but what if I am not happy with this amount?

  1. Your body shop will need to go off of the estimate the insurance company has written first.  Then if they find additional damage, they can call the adjuster to have that damage examined and added to your estimate if it is related to the accident.  Most insurance companies will not pay more just because your guy charges more for labor.  Now if your body shop cannot repair it for the appraised amount, they would need to call your adjuster to discuss VALID reasons why it cannot be done.

  2. People always make WAY too big of a deal about this.

Its very simple-  if you want to go through an insurance company you must go off their estimate.  Now, the estimate they do is just a preliminary estimate.

All you need to do is take that estimate with you to the shop.... if the shop finds any additional damage they will simplly call the insurance and insurance will do a supplement as long as its REASONABLE.

But remember- insurance has the right to use aftermarket and used parts- if thats what the difference is then they will not change that.

But again- dont be scared to accept the check- simply take your insurance estimate to the shop and they will call your adjuster if they find any additional damage. it happens every day.

  3. Take the estimate to the shop. If they cannot fix the vehicle for the insurance estimate, then they will call the appraiser.  The appraiser and your auto body will decide whether or not a supplemental appraisal is needed.  Acceptance of a check is by no means a final settlement.  You did not sign a property damage release.  It is unlikely that the insurance will allow for a higher labor rate.

  4. One more reason I love State Farm. No estimates required. They have an adjuster look at the damage, you take your vehicle to a shop, and it gets repaired. Never had an argument with any shop, including Dealerships.
