I'm 15 and me and my friends were at a park and the cops came and they told us that if a parent doesn't come down, that we will go to the station. Well they took all of our names and address and phone number then told us we can go home with the parent. I guess the curfew is 11 and we were out at like 11:40. What is going to happen? Am i going to get a fine or anything? I live in Akron, Ohio. Also this is my first cop write up.

My parents already know cuz i told them and they just said to not let it happen again

But i think the cop said that the park was like private property and no1 was supposed to be there after 10 or something

Will they write me up for that too?

  1.    Curfews are enforced through the passage of a City Ordinance (a local law that only applies within the jurisdictional boundaries of the City).  Normally an Ordinance violation can result in three actions.

The first is a physical arrest (they take you to the juvenile booking center).

The second option the officer has is to charge you with the offense, but release you at the scene with a Notice to Appear (you would have received an official document from the officer with a court date).  This puts in motion the same judicial hearings (Court) as if you were physically arrested and will result in the same fines, community service, or jail time after conviction as if they had taking you in, but spares you the initial arrest or punishment until conviction (normally only allowed by ordinance for a resident of the County),

The last option is to give you a warning. When a warning is given the police document the contact with you for their records and then release you – normally to a parent or responsible adult party (friends parent, etc.).  The documentation serves several purposes. First it provides future officers who run your name with the incident – which will impact their decision on whether a warning is appropriate or if an arrest should be made (repeat violators are normally arrested). It also serves as intelligence information for the department.  When a crime occurs within an area crime analysis search the police database for all persons stopped within that geographical area and time period to develop a suspect list.  As an example, Ted Bundy (the mass rapist and murder) was eventually identified as a suspect in those heinous crimes based on an unrelated parking ticket he received in the area of one.

The good news is that based on the information you provided, you only received a warning.  The information is not sent to the Courts or any other agency and is only used as intelligence for that department. If asked have you ever been arrested on a job application, your answer is still “No” (a very important answer that if it was “yes” would hurt you for the rest of your life). Hope this answer helps – enjoy your teenage years, as they come and go so quickly but remember that you are always responsible for your actions… be smart, stay safe, and have fun.
