Got caught drinking in my car?

Me and three friends just recently got caught with open alcohol in the car. I, the driver, was not drinking nor had an open beer but my three friends each did. The cops caught us right when we got there so they only had a few sips. I wasn't drinking because I was the designated driver and was just about to drop them off after they had some beers, the car was parked and off, I didn't consume any alcohol and they wrote the summons with a court date for under age possession of alcohol. Is there anyway this is going to affect my license or insurance?

  1. doesn't matter if the car was parked or not, it was able to be driven with a person behind the wheel.

i bet it will greatly affect your insurance rates.

what were the ages of all involved?

  2. It doesn't matter if the car was parked, running, not running.  You are still guilty.  It isn't harsher when driving, it isn't more lenient when parked.  It is the same for either.  Yes,  It will affect both your license and insurance

  3. It is going to be harsh and bad. But you made the choice so you will have to live with it. You should thank your  buds.

  4. h**l yeah. What you did was break the law. There is a thing called a open container law in just about every state. It doesnt matter if you were drinking or not. If you had a open container in the car you are just as guilty.

  5. Take a look at the statue number used on the citation. Does this fall under the motor vehicle section of the code? Sounds like the citation may not be related to a motor vehicle infraction, just a citation in general.
