Question:

Got caught shoplifting!!!?

I got caught shoplifting from a store by a cop but then he asked who my dad was after I told him my name and he learned that they used to be on the same squad back in the day and they are still really good friends. The cop let me off the hook but now I think that he is going to tell my dad. What should I do if he does?? I think it is like a 90% chance that he will tell.

I'm 17 by the way and I'm living with my dad right now. I will get in a lot of trouble and no, I don't want to be honest with him and own up to what I did. I don't even know what I should do!!

  1. I know u probably dont wanna hear this but u have to be honest! infact telling ur dad first would be better and i think he would be proud of u from telling him and not hearing it from his old friend!

  2. Tell ur dad it'll be off ur chest and dad would feel better that u wer honst.

  3. Fess up.

You don't want your father to be in the dark about his own son when the other cop and his whole squad or precinct have already gotten word about you.  Don't make your father look bad.

Sit your father down and say dad, did you see your friend "the cops name" lately.  say "dad on this day fill in date i went here fill in this place and saw, fill in the name.  I was caught doing something i should not have done and cops name was cool enough to let me go with a warning.

  4. i agree with the previous posts, the worst thing that could happen is if your dad hears it from somebody else first, sure he will be mad and dissappointed, but not nearly as much if he hears it from somebody else

  5. I don't want to seem mean but, It disgusts me that you got off! You should be punished for it! You're old enough to know stealing is wrong. Do you realize when people shoplift the stores get their money back by passing it on to the customer with price raises? People are struggling to put food on the table as it is! We don't need price raises because of shoplifters. Tell your Dad what you did and take your punishment, It's the right thing to do!

  6. I would tell yer dad before the friend does.. and sorry, you commit a crime, you need to own up to it, lol... Were you throwing one more in before you turned 18?

Just tell him and let him vent. Don't do it again - You'll be an adult soon (Hello, permanent record?).  In ten years no one will care if this was a one-time mistake.

  7. you did it ; let your dad know your sorry and it wont happen again not that this is a good thing but if you dont get everything you want act kinda deprived lol ( seriously ) or else just fess up and deal with the consequences and i would get in trouble to just apologize or blame peer pressure

consequences are nothing to be afraid of ;]

  8. It is best that you do own up to what you did and be honest.    I know as a teen you want to be independent and live free as an adult---but this monkey on your back---and you hiding it will definitly restrict that and the was your father will view your ability to be resposible.  It was wrong---if you accept accountability now--endure the embarrassment---it's less painful and the affects will linger less.  Builds good character.
