Hi...I have loved horses since I first rode one at age 4...I saved for years until I finally could buy my own. After we moved we brought him to our place where I kept him for another 4 years. But that was the last year of high school and I thought I was just growing out of them so I ended up selling my beloved horse:( Well now, I am getting the itch to want to own one again now that I have most of my priorities in line and I'm with a guy that doesn't mind me having one. The problem is along with growing older comes more money problems. My question is has anyone sold their horses only to find they want another a couple years down the road? And how did you get the money for that again? I would have to board mine now. But I really would like to get another. Just want to hear your stories! Thanks!

  1. I'm not in that situation or have been...but here's my thoughts

Get a rough estimate for how much per month the horse will cost you (board, extra supplies, bug spray, worming, farrier, vet) and than make up a list of your regular costs (electricity, water, and so on) and than how much you make monthly and see if you would be able to afford a horse.

EDIT: Also you might want to try leasing a horse for a couple months to see if you are truely going to stay interested in riding and taking care of a horse

Don't rush into buying one also...take your time. Things will work out in the end

  2. i stopped riding for three years and now own two horses i saved very hard for both and had to give up brand name clothes, going out on the town every weekend, not a huge price to pay for the joy they bring into my life, with agistment for the two i probably pay about $200-$300 a month toward the $200 if feet dont need doing and worming is not due and thats for two.hope i helped
