  1. sounds like you are having a pressure or temperature problem. How old is your water heater? How hot is your water?

  2. This sounds like a pressure problem. Call your water supplier to see what your street pressure should be. If you have a regulator, it determines the amount of pressure allowed into your system.

When your water heater comes on, the heat increase your pressure through a process called thermal expansion. A BYPASS regulator not only governs the pressure that comes into your system, it also allows this excess pressure to back out of your system. If your street pressure exceeds the pressure needed to trigger the relief valve, the bypass feature can't work. To check this, put a guage on at your hose faucet (on the house side of the regulator, maybe the back or side of the house), run the hot water for a few minutes and then turn it off. The pressure should begin to rise. If it goes past the pressure rating of your relief valve, that is the problem.

The problem can damage appliances that have a solenoid valve, cause your toilets to leak, or blow your washing machine hoses. You would need a pressure expansion tank installed in your water line. They are relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to install.

  3. U got a pressure issue in ur lines.  Do u have a pressure regulator?...pressure should be set at 65lbs.  If the pressure in ur line keeps popping the valve.  That have to be adjusted first.

  4. Sounds like your temperature is set to high. The "POP-OFF is there to keep it from blowing up. Of course, the posibility that the new one is defective.

  5. We had this problem spring up around here when the water company started installing water meters with check valves to prevent tampering. As the water heats it expands and the excess pressure had no place to go. Small expansion tanks added to the cold water line at the heater resolved the problem.

If you are on a well, your expansion tank may be waterlogged. This would need checked if you are on a well.

  6. The question is rather ambiguous.  Do you mean to say that you bought and installed a new pressure relief valve yesterday and the new one leaks as well?, or do you mean you don't know how to install it???   Let's deal with the latter scenario first.  To install a new relief valve, you'll need to drain off a portion of the water in the tank first.   4-5 gallons should be enough to get the water level below the valve opening.  You should, of course, shut off the supply to the tank before attempting to drain.  Once a sufficient amount is drained, then simply unscrew the old relief valve, put either teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads of the new one and s***w it in.   If the new one continues to leak, drip, as well, then the temp. is set too high on the tank and needs to be reduced to between 125-130 degrees.  Much higher than that and you risk the possibility of scalding someone.

  7. you may have two problems happening here.

    1) check your house pressure.  it should average about 60 - 75lbs.

    2) from there ~ be sure your water heater is "turning off" when it has reached its required temperature.  if not, you may have a faulty thermostat which can be dangerous.

so, check your house pressure and water heater thermostat as your first line of attack.

  8. Make sure you use teflon tape when installing a T&P valve and tighten that sucker down good.

  9. If your talking about a water heater you might turn down the temp. Unless of course your water heater is running all the time then you need to replace the water heater.  If your talking about something else then never mind.
