I'm 18 years old and have already gotten a speeding ticket. I told the person that I hit their car and also called the police. The damage didnt seem too severe to me, but there was a dent in the door of the car which seemed pretty new. Should i go through insurance or just pay off the damages. I'm not sure what to do.

  1. Obviously you are liable to pay for the damage somehow as the accident was your fault (I don't mean to rub it in, honestly!)

The police shouldn't really get involved unless there were injuries or circumstances such as drink driving etc. and if for some reason they have contacted your insurance, they are not authorised to make and proceed with a claim in your name - YOU have to tell your insurance (that is, if you're going to get them to pay for the damage).  If a claim is filed, you also have the right to cancel it if you decide to pay for the damage yourself.

Get an honest estimate for the damage and even if its, say, £100 more than your excess, pay for it yourself because your insurance premium will go through the roof next year due to the points and your age - beware, an at-fault claim will bump up the price even more.

    Good luck!

  2. YOu are not the only one,I have met this type of  problem before.I have good experience here to solve the problem though.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  3. To buy insurance and then not use it is not very wise.  You bought insurance, you paid the premiums, now use the insurance.  Surely the cost to fix the damage will be much more that any rate increase would be ?

  4. Get a quote for repair. If it is higher then what your insurance excess would be then i'd go through insurance.

  5. if the damages are not expensive than pay so your rates don't go up but if there was a police report your insurance might already know so i guess its your own call

  6. It depends on if you have the money to pay outright or pay over 3 years due to a raise in your insurance premium.  The first 3 years of insurance for a new driver is already high.  Your going to have to weight the pros & cons for your own situation.

FYI - police department has nothing to do with your insurance....
