Got my braces off on Thursday, now my teeth hurt?

On thursday I had my braces taken off and now my teeth hurt just like they did when I first had my braces put on. Is it normal? I'm getting a retainer on Tuesday and I'm worried my teeth will move by then. Will they have moved much? Also, is it normal for my teeth to hurt?

  1. I had the same problem. Your teeth are trying to move back to where they were before, and there is nothing holding them from doing that compared to the metal that used to. It will go away after a week or two gradually.

Also, don't worry about them moving before you get your retainer, and when you get it, your teeth will hurt again until you get used to the retainer.

Don't worry tho, everything will be alright. Enjoy your perfect teeth.

  2. Yeah its normal, and i doubt your teeth will move

  3. It's normal for them to hurt after you get your braces off, just take some advil or tylenol and you'll be fine. Its strange for them to wait two weeks to give your your retainer, usually they give you one right away. Just ask your orthodontist.

  4. I got my braces taken off on the fifteenth of july, but after they were only slightly sore, they didn't hurt. The next day they were a little more sore and it got progressively worse until I got my retainers. I noticed that my two front teeth were clearly moving apart but the retainers (they hurt when you first get them but they'll get better as time goes on so WEAR THEM) moved them back into place. Like I said, once you get the retainers you'll be fine. If you have a good orthodontist you won't have to worry about your teeth moving. Just pop some advil every once in a while until you get your retainers. :)
