  1. .

This what I found when I googled it. Doesn't sound like anything I would mess with.

Oxytocin (IPA: /ˌɔk.sɪ.ˈtoʊ.sɪn/) (Greek, "quick birth") is a mammalian hormone that also acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain

It is best known for its roles in female reproduction: it is released in large amounts after distension of the cervix and v****a during labor, and after stimulation of the nipples, facilitating birth and breastfeeding, respectively. Recent studies have begun to investigate oxytocin's role in various behaviors, including social recognition and bonding, anxiety, trust, and maternal behaviors.

  2. Well, yes- some studies have indicated that there is a temporary effect on you.  It tends to make you trust folks a bit more, and be a bit more outgoing sometimes- or at least that's the claim.   The Swiss study I read said it made you more outgoing, and more likely to trust folks with your money, in fact you were more likely to be a generous giver.  I haven't any experience with it other than to stimulate labor, and I haven't gotten many tips in labor and delivery- so I couldn't vouch for that part.  If it does truly encourage the behavior, then you might be happy but poor afterward so I guess you should leave the bank card and wallet at home.  The jury is still out as far as if it enhances sexual response or not.  It gives rats erections- but it's rather hard to ask a rat to evaluate his response to things.  So far as side effects, yeah- it's natural enough produced by the body, but what you get in the nasal spray isn't exactly produced by your body.  And it can have some nasty side effects.  Primarily those affect the CNS, with brain swelling, seizures and bleeding in the brain.  It can also upset your electrolyte balance, which in turn may affect things like your heart beat and cause some odd arrythmias.  It also can cause the kidneys to filter out too much sodium- back to the electrolyte imbalance problem, and that can lead to muscle cramps, etc.  If you are looking for a trip, I'm sorry but that won't happen.  At best you will probably feel outgoing, and the worst- well it might be ugly.  Of course it may just enhance your girlie side, so if you feel maternal feelings you will understand why.
