  1. It is incorrect to assume that your own fully comp cover allows you to drive any other vehicle with the owner's permission. This is only the case if your insurance specifically allows it, and even then I think you'll find the wording "in an emergency".  Read your insurance documents thoroughly and if you're in any doubt ring your insurers.

I have to say, from what you mention, that it looks like you're in for 6 - 8 points plus a hefty fine; It's possible that your mum will be done too, for "causing or permitting" the offence.

  2. The ONLY way that you would be covered to drive your mother's car is if you have SPECIFICALLY got the following on YOUR insurance certificate:-

"The policyholder may also drive, with the owners permission, a private motor car not owned by the policyholder and not hired to the policyholder under a hire purchase agreement"

If that statement IS NOT on your certificate you are NOT INSURED to drive other vehicles.

  3. You need to have a look at the policy details on your OWN car insurance. Sometimes it says that you are allowed to drive other cars with the permission of the policy holder. Check and find out.

Were you driving safely? Then I would not think there is anything morally wrong with having no insurance. But the police will no doubt prosecute you because they follow the law without using their brains.

  4. You weren't covered. Just act dumb.........

  5. check your insurance, usually fully comp allows you to drive another car but only covers it for third party

  6. I thought what you've said is true (I've driven other cars thinking I was covered too). Probably depends on the individual policy though. Time to read the small print.

  7. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!

Just because you have a "fully Comp" policy doesn`t mean you automatically get the "driving other cars extension". You can have the extension if you are third party only, or even third party fire and theft.

If it doesn`t say on your current policy you have the DOC extension you do not have it, regardless of cover.

You weren`t insured as a named driver on your Mums policy and you don`t have the DOC extension you are not insured to drive that car.

  8. If your mums car is fully comp as well there is no case to answer,You will be insured third party only to drive your mums car.

  9. This happened to my husband, they said ingnorance wasn't an excuse, he was charge £150 and given points, and his insurance went up all because even though he was fully comp he was under 25 so it meant he wasn't allowed to drive another car.

You  will recieve a punishment this happes all the time, they can't let you off as it wouldn't be fair.

  10. "THINKING I WAS COVERED TO DRIVE HERS"

Thats the clue.....THINKING doesn't work, you have to CHECK

just plead guilty, it'll be the quickest and least painful route.

There appears to be something unusual about your circumstances that would send you mums premiums up. Age, points ???

Whatever it is, its likely your policy provider took "drive any car with 3rd party only" off your policy for the same reason your mums premium went up.

  11. if u got fully comp on ur own car and ARE OVER 25. then u are covered. btw the car u are drivin has to be covered by it own insurance aswell.

if they police say u are not covered then u are probly not. if this is the case. i hope u understand that this is not a joke, when they day u have got insuarnce and some who hasnt hitts u then u will learn

  12. Firstly, why is your email in capitals and secondly, you need to be locked up in a dungeon prison and fed rat droppings as punishment for your retarded actions.

  13. You need to check the wording on your policy.

Many people miss the point that states you may drive other vehicles Provided NO OTHER POLICY IS IN FORCE FOR THAT VEHICLE.

If you've got one  of those policies, you're scuppered!
