Question:

Got screwed out of money at my job...?

So I'm currently auto detailing til I can find a job doing mobile electronics installation (which is hard to find, even though i'm certified). Anyway, I like detailing, the people I work with, and the fact that the job is commission. My shift is from 3-11 pm, but I usually stay til 3 a.m. And get as much work done as possible. I get my hours stub for the 2 weeks, and only got 68 hrs, when I was expecting 94. That's 26 hours missing. I confronted my boss about it, we went over my paper work, and there were various stupid reasons as to why my check was so small, mostly due to the fact that someone claimed the vehicles before me, even though they were still so nasty I had to redo them, AND they were on the full detail board.

My boss said he'll look into it and see what he can do for me, which everyone says they hear all the time, so idk if I trust it. What else should I do? I like the job for now. Should I go to the big boss and tell him to give me the hours or I quit? Thanks.

  1. what you should do is write and letter to the big boss when its written and in paper work its filed you can contact citizens advice bureau if you live in  england there are a citizens advice bureau type thing in all counties the will tell you your legel right free and help you at the end of it all you will get your money and they can not sack you for writing a letter ha ha good tip for you is to put at the bottem of the letter (a copy of this letter has also been sent to my solicitor with the date next to it) that will worry the boss to act then if you did the work and they did not pay you then you got ripped off or there system for payment is not very good something needs to change hope this helps if it helps i had this problem i did the letter thing and i was paid 3 days later and given 3days more paid holiday make sure the letter is (polite)

  2. If this job is commission, what are the hours for?

I work on commission, and nobody pays attention to hours.

I would be sure to have them define for you exactly how your pay is calculated.  If you confirm that you are being taken advantage of, then I would find another job asap (leave this one on good terms, it's always wise to leave on good terms).

  3. If you worked the hours you have to be paid.  Ask your boss when you can expect the remainder of your check.  If he does not give you a direct answer bring the complaint up with his boss.  26 hours is substantial, and you deserve to be paid for it.  If they still refuse to pay you, bring your case to your local labor commission.

    Good Luck!
