i have a cannondale f900 CAD2. its a hard tail with the lock out front shock. i do a lot of raod riding as well as some dirt. i am riding on shimano deore 26 inch rims. i change between them some 1.25 slicks and 2.25 mtb tires depending on what I'm riding. i wanted to buy some 27 inch road rims to not have to keep changing tires before rides. my brakes do not accommodate the 700c rims. i was wondering how much smaller the 27 is from the 700, where to buy some cheap rims, what to look for and thoughts on this idea

  1. 27" wheels are almost obsolete and are LARGER in diameter than 700C.

I suggest that you buy a set of 26" MTB wheels with narrow rims and put the smallest tire you can on them.

  2. Putting rims that are a different size than what the bike was set up for can be a challenge. Brakes are just the first potential stumbling point. In your shoes, I would get another set of 26 inch mtb rims, one set for the road and the other set for the trails. That will make changeover much quicker, until you can get a road bike.

  3. not much. you'd be better with a spare set of 26" rims with a set of high psi slicks mounted on them..

  4. If you do a lot of road riding I would get a road bike, they are a lot more efficient and fun.
