Got what we wanted out of the warm-up game – Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 – Cricket News Update
Despite watching his batters struggle to make runs during the warm-up game, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 skipper Ross Taylor was content with their performance, hoping that the outing will hold them in good stead ahead of the first Test , which kicks off on Wednesday in Antigua.
The touring side barely managed to pull out a draw against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board’s XI, despite a dismal batting display which saw only two batters making 50s. The Black Caps were bundled out on an embarrassing 149 in their first innings, with Kane Williamson top scoring with 55, while only two other players managing to reach double figures.
Another difficult task followed when the home side compiled 326 on the board. While the bowling showed signs of improvement, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kruger-van-Wyk-c1811 ensured that his side hung on for a stalemate.
The openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129, who made 51.
Despite their struggles, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849, was keen to take the positives out of the game.
"A warm-up game is a warm-up game. We got what we wanted out of it," he said. “We were lucky to come away with the draw but we had a good innings, most of the batsmen had a decent bat out there and the bowlers got a good trundle for one innings. We haven't played with the red ball for a while and it was good to spend a bit of time on our feet.”
Another encouraging factor pointed out by Taylor was that the warm-up game was played at the same venue where the first Test match will take place, further allowing his players to get used to the surroundings.
"The warm-up game, you don't often get to play on the ground you're going to be playing a Test match on. Just getting used to the familiar surroundings I'm sure will be beneficial for the team."
