The Borussia Dortmund midfielder scored the winner against Werder Bremen in his side’s opening game of the season.

Mario Gotze came from the bench to score the winning goal in the dying moments of the match.
Gotze admitted that it was a great feeling to score the winning goal for the team. He insisted that he had to prove his fitness after being out from the first team for so long, and is ecstatic to have contributed in the win.
The German international enjoyed the goal and is targeting to cement his place in the first team in the remaining course of the season.
“The goal was a huge relief for me. It was fantastic to score again, especially as we were playing at home and it's been such a long time since I last scored - it feels like an eternity. That made it all the more enjoyable,” the
midfielder was quoted as saying in an interview.
The attacker admitted that there is still some time before he reaches full fitness. The player insisted that he understands that there is tough competition for places which is why he is eager to prove himself in the coming weeks.
“To be honest, I'm not very used to sitting on the bench, but I also have to understand that in a strong squad like ours there will always be players who have to start off on the bench and wait for their chance. Just as the case
was with me against Bremen,” he concluded.
Mario Gotze made only 17 league appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season and scored six goals in return. The player missed most part of the last season through a groin injury and has returned to first team training a few weeks
back. The midfielder is tipped to shine along with Reus in the Dortmund ranks this season as the Black Yellows look to complete a hat-trick of titles.
