Gough thinks Aussies already shut out of Ashes
England’s former fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Gough-c52450 feels the Ashes is already as good as over for the Australians after their crushing loss in the second test played at the Adelaide Oval.
He feels that the current Aussie bowling attack is not capable of dismissing the tourists twice and that is the precise reason why they can not compete with the English batting line-up that is one of the strongest ever.
He also brushed aside the assumption that legendary spin bowler Shane Warne is going to play in the series, according to Gough that is just not going to happen. Besides that his real worry is that the Aussies are not going to be competitive
in the remainder of the series as they do not have the ammunition in their bowling ranks, all this needs to be addressed before the teams play the Perth test.
"It's not going happen. If someone rang Shane and said 'we really need you' I think he'd probably say yes, but Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 just aren't going to do that,". "They would never ask him because it would be going back on their own statement
to back youth. It just won't happen.
"I can't see how they are going to win a game," Gough added. "Their best chance is at Perth where their record is very good, but England have got players who all play well off the back foot so they won't be worried about extra bounce -
they'll actually enjoy it. I just can't see that they have the bowlers, whoever they pick, to bowl England out twice."
Gough who himself took part in many unsuccessful Ashes campaigns had a suggestion for the English think tank ahead of the Perth test, set to be played on the fastest and bounciest track in the world.
He feels that tall pacer Chris Tremlett should be included in the playing eleven instead of Tim Bresnan of Amjad Shehzad as Tremlett has the ability to generate disconcerting bounce due to his gigantic frame.
"If it had been any other pitch over there I'd have gone for Tim Bresnan but I just think we need that bit of extra firepower at Perth where there's a touch more bounce," he said. "You look at history and the guys that have done well there
are the tall bowlers - Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Glenn McGrath - the guys who can hit back-of-a-length to make the most of the extra bounce and carry. That's the only reason I'd favour Tremlett. Bresnan is a fine bowler and in any other conditions I
think he'd be the man.
The Perth test match starts with the tourists firmly installed as favourites after bulldozing the hosts at the Adelaide Oval.
The Australians would have to be at the top of their game if they are to topple the rampant English who under the inspiring leadership of Andrew Strauss are eyeing their first win in an Ashes series down under since their win in the 1986-87
contest.
Tremlett is set to replace fast bowler Stuart Broad who would be sitting out the remainder of the series after sustaining an abdominal muscle tear on the final day of the Adelaide test match.
He is unlikely to return for the ODI series either that follows the five match test series that ends on the 6th of January with the final test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
England is in the driving seat at the moment and only needs to win one of the next three test matches to retain the little urn that they won in the last Ashes series at home last year.
