i have a tropical tank set up with angel fish ,gupies, neons, silver dollars,

and one gourami fish, iv noticed my neons and gupies (forgive my spelling) have started to go missing , and also now iv started seeing the gourami chase the silver dollar and the neons and gupies..

what can i do? i dont know much about gouramis but i guess he has been eating the smaller fish and he is pecking at the silver dollar even though he is bigger than him

what kind of fish can gouramis be kept with? should i buy another? what can i do, do i need to take him out of the tank

thanks heaps

  1. Generally Gourami are not aggressive fish. Usually the problem is aquarists that try to keep them in aquaria that are too small. To someone who tries to keep these fish in an undersized tank it would appear that they are "mean", when in actuality the fish-keeper is being "mean".

  2. thank god this has happened to someone else! i thought i was the only one. okay so i had a beautiful blue gourami and all of my fish started dying. he was so aggressive that he killed all of the smaller fish. you have to get rid of the fish NOW before its too late for all of the other fish! i had to learn the hard way and get all new fish. the only ones he probably wont go for are the angel fish, because they are quite aggressive killers too. i would even suggest you take him out of the tank until you have time to take him back. he'll keep doing it until he rules the tank.

if you plan on keeping the fish, i suggest you keep it in a tank with other very dominant, aggressive fish. thats the only way he wont kill them. otherwise, just get rid of him lol!'

another edit....whatever you do dont buy another. that would be a huge disaster!

    actually.........

i DO have a book on fish species and in it they say that when a gourami is placed with smaller fish, they can be the most aggressive and dangerous to the other fish living in the tank.
