  1. Why does the government have to do EVERYTHING for us?  Our nation was built on a free market system.  I think the best thing the government could do is to provide incentives to promote alternative fuel.  The knowlege and technology is already there.  The synergy of a few great brains could solve the problem a lot easier than you might think -- and probably save consumers a lot of money.  How about using hydrogen or fuel made with quickly renewable switchgrass (rather than causing a corn shortage for that type of fuel).  There's a lot of fast food places out there.  Using their waste grease/oil for fuel would offset the damage done by having a fast food habit.

Look how good the tabacco companies (and others) did when the government was subsidizing the crops.  How about rewarding positive contributions to our environment instead of the opposite.

  2. yes, especially north Korea and Iran who think there only possible energy source is nuclear. we all know what they will do when they get there hands on some enriched plutonium.

  3. Renewable energy is already receiving large subsidies from the government. But the money is, to a certain extent, wasted in these subsidies because they are funding a form of energy that doesn't have major applicability in many parts of the country, and at the moment cannot, on its own, provide all the necessary electricity to a grid because of its inherent limitations. A much more helpful and significant contribution to stopping global warming would be easing the constraints on the nuclear power industry. The reason nuclear plants are so much more expensive and have a much longer implementation period in the U.S. is because of all the ridiculous safety standards that are more stringent and costly than in any other country. A very strong safety culture has built itself up in the industry anyway. Increasing the nuclear contribution to energy generation in this country could greatly cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.

  4. Of course they should- they already are!

  5. Yes they should.
