Government funding - special ed vs advanced learners?

I am trying to find out some kind of statistics on how much the government spends on special education and how much they spend on the brilliant individuals.

Specifically how much help do they give the gifted compared to the handicapped.

Special education is covered by federal money while Gifted isnt covered by anyone, meaning schools dont have to have a gifted program if they dont want to

It really depends on the school system you are evalulating.  A lot of public schools are now doing something called twice exceptional for students who have special ed needs but are also gifted.

The easiest way to find the information would be to visit a public school web site - or search www.ed.gov
