Government of Ireland to support Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 on ICC rebuff – Cricket news
The Government of Ireland has assured its full support to the campaign launched by the Cricket Ireland to overturn the International Cricket Council decision of shutting the ICC World Cup 2015 doors for non-Test playing nations.
Recently, the ICC announced a decision of keeping the next showpiece event restricted to 10 teams, which means no associate side will have the opportunity to try its luck at cricket’s biggest stage. The ICC decision is being heavily criticised by every associate
team and the minnows have been considering this as a first step to isolate the game from rest of the world.
After setting up a Facebook campaign against the decision, the Cricket Ireland is considering taking legal action against the ICC. The Irish players Tweeted some extremely rude comments on web, while Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom has regarded
this decision as “frankly outrageous.”
According to the reports, the Cricket Ireland along with other 94 associate and affiliate nations has been considering all possible options to upend the decision. Even the Irish government has promised its full support to the cause.
“Non-Test nations such as Ireland have played a major part in World Cups, not just by their talent and skill, but also by their commitment, passion and love of the game,” said Ireland’s sports minister Leo Varadkar.
“This ‘closed shop’ approach cannot be good for the game, and appears to fly in the face of the sacred values that cricket has espoused for so long - namely fair play, sportsmanship and camaraderie,” the minister added.
The Irish team performed magnificently in their last two World Cup campaigns. They hurled http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 out of the 2007 competition by beating them convincingly in a group match. Their recent ICC World Cup 2011 performance was even more impressive.
Though Ireland could not qualify for the quarter-final stage, they pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the recent mega event when they thrashed England in a group match by 3 wickets. The side also did a fantastic job in most of their group matches.
The next mega event is scheduled to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2015, and this decision means that only 10 teams will have the chance to participate in that edition. However, there will be a qualifying round for the ICC World Cup 2019 scheduled
to be hosted by England.
The latest 14-team ICC World Cup 2011 had also been criticised for its six-week long duration in addition to a number of dull games between the big guns and minnows.
However, cricket pundits believe that associate nations can only improve their game by playing against top teams, and this move by the ICC will wrest the opportunity from them.
