Question:

Government to consider another rebate?

I'm not sure I heard this correctly, but there is consideration in the direction of Congress providing another tax rebate (and probably to people that didn't pay taxes, too!)?

Why don't they just do the right thing, and lower the tax burden on those that are paying taxes?

  1. I agree, they should lower our taxes.

  2. Good point.  And while they're at it, how about reducing spending?

  3. The only thing I've heard along these lines is that Obama wants to give another round of rebates funded by oil companies' profits. Whether this was just a passing whim or something he was serious about, I don't know.

I agree, they should just lower taxes and cut spending. Ironically, with the last round of rebates, the people who pay the most taxes didn't even get any money back! It was ludicrous.

  4. Your absolutely right, however, I will take back any of my stolen money regardless of how the government decides to give it to me!

  5. dont get me wrong i would cash any government check i get. but they do need to just not spend so much. maybe get out of iraq and focus more on afghanistan (since apparently the iraqi's dont want us there anymore........and they are making more money than they are spending because we are building everything) i wouldnt mind it if all this spending was at home, like making our bridges safer, better equiping law enforcement to deal with illegal drug runners and so on so forth.

  6. Taxes don't really bother me. I don't know many people who have been brought to bankruptcy by taxes, and we do live in a pretty good country. I think it's worth the price we pay.

But that being said, Tax rebates are going to happen. Pandora's box has been opened. Politics is the battle for the undecided voters. And the opportunity to be the political party who delivered an xbox or a HDTV, or a weekend getaway to those undecideds is too tempting.

So, what xbox games are you going to get next time?

What amount of tax do I object to? It's not about percentages. As long as a person can pay their taxes and enjoy a good standard of living, then I have no problem with it. I mean, if I made one million a year and got taxed $500,000, then wouldn't that be better than earning $20,000 dollars and being taxed nothing?

And I gotta start defending the poor. In too many questions and answers, people talk about  the poor not trying or not being motivated, or something. But most of the poor people I've known have jobs, many work more hours than average, and get paid less. Some are making other people rich.

Sure, there are people out there who aren't motivated. But there are a lot of people who have been beaten down pretty good as well, and there are also many people struggling to get back up. Lumping all, or even most, of the poor into the "Unmotivated" category is pretty elitist.

  7. That's the liberal way. The last one was Bush's idea, and that has proven to not have made much of a difference. In fact, all it did was increase the budget deficit even more.

The Liberals didn't get as much as they wanted the last time, and want to give away more.

My question is this. Why do they want to raise taxes on everybody in the first place, only to give it back in the form of a rebate. Like they're doing us a favor or something.

They must really think the American public is stupid. Well, half of it is anyway. That half is voting for Obama.
