Govortsova/Jans-Ignacik slay Cadantu/Keothavong to reach final – Internationaux de Strasbourg 2012
Second seeds, Belarus’ Olga Govortsova and Poland’s Klaudia Jans-Ignacik, crushed the Romanian-British duo, Alexandra Cadantu and Anne Keothavong, with a breadstick at the Internationaux de Strasbourg 2012 on Thursday. She penned down a 6-2, 6-1 success
against their opponents’ to cruise into the final showdown at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International-level event held in France.
The Belarusian-Polish junction displayed tremendous abilities and co-ordination to trash Cadantu and Keothavong in straight sets in their first meeting. After earning the success in 58 minutes, Govortsova and Jans-Ignacik convincingly booked a spot in the
title-round.
Govortsova and Jans-Ignacik assertively entered this clay court event and went on a five-game tear before their rivals could snatch a break back. They held their serve once more and clinched the opener with a 6-2 score line.
The in-form Belarusian-Polish tandem kept momentum rolling into the follow-up set. After the Cadantu-Keothavong team held their serve in the opening game, the winning duo wiped out the following six games in a row and pocketed the set with a breadstick.
Summing up the seeds’ performance, Govortsova and Jans-Ignacik took full advantage of the five double faults their rivals spilled and a better first serve share of 71 per cent they clobbered. The Belarusian-Polish collaboration amazingly availed 18 out of
27 points on their first serve share and cashed in six out of nine break opportunities to earn the limelight.
Govortsova and Jans-Ignacik reached this spot without losing a set. They dumped the Japanese-Taiwanese pair, Shuko Aoyama and Hao-Ching Chan, and the Venezuelan-Mexican junction, Andrea Gamiz and Ximena Hermoso, in straight sets in the pre-semi rounds.
The Romanian-British pair on the other side of next secured this spot after upsetting third seeded Luxembourgian-French junction, Mandy Minella and Pauline Parmentier, in the opening round. They then trashed the Australian duo, Monique Adamczak and Stephanie
Bengson, in straight sets to reach the semis.
Next up for the beaming Belarusian-Polish tandem is the winner of the match between top seeds, Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova, and the fourth seeded tandem, Timea Babos and Su-Wei Hsieh. Govortsova and Jans-Ignacik need to maintained consistency
in their game to conquer the tournament.
