im getting a Nokia N810 or a I-Mate Ultimate 9502(if i can get enough money for that gigantic brick) and they both have GPS. i dont plan to use either of them on a network. But i have heard thing that you can manipulate the GPS signal to pull information from the internet.....i was wondering how this is done, if theres any software that i have to download or any firmware that needs to be modified. Thanks!! p.s. dont leave smartass remarks like 'its gps use it for what its made for'. Either answer the question or dont. I didnt post this question so you could say you dont know and get 5 points.

  1. You can not use the GPS part of the Nokia N810 to pull information or anything from the internet.

The GPS Hardware Chipset is receive only and cannot transmit any signal.

For you to be able to pull stuff off of the internet you must tell some server what it is you want to pull - therefore you need a device that will transmit as well.

The Global Positioning System is in no way related to the Internet or Cellular Networks or Television or Radio Systems - it is its' own independent system that does not communicate with other publicly accessible systems.

You can find more information about GPS devices and some great deals on them at http://www.sourcegps.com
