  1. with word problems its best to work backwards. since your total should be 20% of 4.5 kg, first find out what that is (0.9). then set up an equation.

    x+y= 0.9

x stands for type 1 of the granola and 1 unit of x is 0.3

y stands for type 2 of granola and 1 unit of y is 0.12

what is the maximum amount of times x can go into 0.9? Since x equals 0.3, x can go into 0.9 three times but that leaves no room for y, so it must be twice.

so now your equation looks like:

    2x+y=0.9

then subtract the total number of x from the total amount to get how much of y you need.

    4.5kg- 2

hope that helps not only with your homework but also how to get the answer.

  2. just eat both
