Grace Lady triumphs in Prix Corrida – Horseracing news
Grace Lady landed successful in the Prix Corrida (Group 2) at Saint-Cloud in France on Friday, May 24, 2013. She was ridden really well by jockey Gerald Mosse, who made a comeback to his home racing after fulfilling commitments in Hong Kong.
Despite being under immense pressure, Grace Lady managed to dominate the race and no one else was able match her speed and stamina. She had been priced 103/10, which clearly suggested that she was not one of the favourites to succeed.
However, the young filly benefitted from the soft going, winning the race by three and a half lengths. Her start was a decent one, but the most impressive factor was her stamina, which helped her pull away from the others.
Laurent Benoit, the racing manager of the winning owners Ecurie Victoria Dreams was pleased with the performance of Grace Lady and said, “The ground definitely helped but she’s run very well and her jockey knows her well, which is also an advantage. We’ll
wait and see where we go next but she’ll be better over a straight 1,600m (mile), I think today was the absolute limit in terms of trip.”
On the other hand, Fate finished as a runner up in the race, which would have pleased her team. She made an improvement towards the final stages of the event, which shows that her stamina is not an issue, but she needs to focus on other factors.
Her owner Sven Hanson said after the race, “We knew she was good but, you never know how good until you meet these kinds of horses. The ground was a little soft for her because she has a great turn of foot and she needs more pace but, she's certainly decent.”
Just a short neck distance behind Fate was the race favourite filly Romantica, who was unable to stay after being in a good position for quite some time. She had attracted the maximum number of bets overall because of her previous record in the sport.
However, the four-year-old runner will need to work hard on her stamina in order to continue winning races with consistency at this level.
