Grace Loh excels in Women’s 100m backstroke semi-final – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Grace Loh of Melbourne VIC excelled in the semi-finals of Women’s 100m backstroke on day one of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
Loh spoiled the party of her opponents in the four-lap backstroke discipline and earned her way into the final round as top fastest swimmer.
With her astonishing efforts, Loh remained in a lead of body length over her following swimmer and transpired on the wall as top fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 57.88 seconds.
Loh was traced by her strongest competitor, Rachel Goh of Nunawading, who stayed 1.02 seconds slower from her and touched the wall with a timing of 58.90 seconds for second position.
Third fastest qualification spot of the event was obtained by Hayley Baker of Melbourne VIC, who remained just a stroke behind and entered the playoff with a timing of 59.34 seconds.
Baker was traced by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who stayed 0.19 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and qualified into the playoff as fourth best finisher by submitting a time of 59.53 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Lauren Rettie of River City Rapid, who stayed nearly 0.60 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.10 seconds.
Rettie was traced by Hayley White of Cranbrook, who tried hard to improve her position but stayed 0.13 seconds slower and finished sixth in the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.23 seconds.
Seventh best qualifying position of the event was obtained by Kelly Stubbins of Waterlions, who stayed 0.17 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.40 seconds.
Stubbins remained just an inch ahead of her following swimmer, Mikka Sheridan of Chandler, QLD, who ended her race in eighth place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 00.53 seconds.
Loh received huge admiration from the crowd for her fastest qualification effort and stressed that she would met hopes of her fans by securing gold medal.
