Grace Loh occupies Women’s 50m backstroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Grace Loh of Melbourne VIC occupied gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on concluding day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
The 21-year-old Loh lived up to the expectations of her fans as she elevated her efforts in the final round and reach the medal rostrum for gold medal. Loh entered the final round as second best swimmer behind Rachel Goh but with her unrelenting efforts, she managed to secure the title.
Loh remained just an arm stroke ahead of her closest challenger and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with an effort of 27.03 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Goh, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 27.23 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was followed by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who suffered a deficit of 0.32 seconds from her former finisher and surfaced on the finishing blockade as third position holder with a timing of 27.55 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the event was obtained by Adelaide Hart of All Saints, WA, who remained 0.22 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 27.77 seconds.
Subsequently, Hart was traced by Hayley Baker of Melbourne VIC, who remained 0.16 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end as fifth best finisher by submitting a time of 27.93 seconds.
Baker was chased by Kirstie Meertens of SOPAC, NSW, who was 0.07 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall as sixth best swimmer with an effort of 28.00 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Emily Nicol of North-West, who remained one stroke apart and hit the wall with a timing of 28.24 seconds.
Nicol remained only 0.01 seconds ahead of Hayley White of Cranbrook, who ended her race in eighth best place by reporting a time of 28.25 seconds.
In addition, Loh was extremely pleased with her title claiming effort in the shortest backstroke discipline and raked medal for her notable effort after the event.
