Grace Loh pockets Women’s 100m backstroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Grace Loh of Melbourne VIC pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on day two of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Thursday, September 13.
The 21-year-old Loh met expectations of her supporters in the 100m event, as she showed no mercy to her opponents and surfaced on the wall for gold medal.
With her unstoppable efforts, Loh enjoyed a half body length lead over her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing blockade as the champion by submitting an effort of 57.52 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Rachel Goh, who remained 0.40 seconds slower from her and completed her race in second best place by producing a time of 57.92 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Hayley Baker of Melbourne VIC, who suffered a loss of 1.05 seconds from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 58.97 seconds for bronze medal.
Baker was followed by Kelly Stubbins of Waterlions, who remained 0.70 seconds away from earning her way to the victory stand and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with a timing of 59.67 seconds.
Fifth best position of the race was obtained by Lauren Rettie of River City Rapid, who was only a stroke behind and finished in the race by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 00.00 seconds.
Rettie was traced by Holly Barratt of Swan Hills, who remained just 0.11 seconds behind and concluded her race in sixth best place by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.11 seconds.
Barratt was traced by Hayley White of Cranbrook, who was 0.66 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.77 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Mikka Sheridan of Chandler, QLD, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.08 seconds.
Loh expressed happiness over her victory at the prize ceremony of the event and articulated her desire of excelling the same at higher levels of swimming.
