Graciele Herrmann dominates Women’s 50m freestyle heats: Day seven – Pan American Games, Guadalajara
Brazilian swimmer, Graciele Herrmann dominated the preliminary rounds of Women’s 50m freestyle to occupy the fastest qualification spot in final round on day seven of the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Friday, October 21.
Similar to the Olympic Games, Pan American Games are scheduled every fourth year and these attract participation of thousands of international athletes.
The morning session of the concluding day of championship began with the qualifying rounds of Women’s 50m discipline. Herrmann seemed determine to overpower the efforts of her challengers and claim the finest qualification spot of the event.
The Brazilian faced strong resistance from USA’s Lara Marie Jackson and Madison James Kennedy in the single-lap freestyle event. Herrmann got off the starting blocks with an impeccable start that also played a vital role in providing her a marginal lead
over her competitors in the start of the race.
After gaining a competitive edge over her rivals in beginning of the race, Herrmann took charge of the swim, demonstrating her gruelling efforts and cruising her way towards the finishing end.
With her authoritative stroke and commendable style, she dictated terms to her competitors in the first half of the race. She experienced swingeing competition from her rivals in the second half, but the Brazilian spoiled party of her competitors as she
showed her urgency towards the finishing wall.
She clocked a time of 25.28 seconds to overwhelm her opponents and obtain finest qualification spot of the race. She was trailed by Jackson, who remained just half a stroke away from her former finisher and qualified as the second best swimmer in the final
round.
Jackson remained only 0.11 seconds slower and hit the wall with a timing of 25.39 seconds. She remained 0.01 seconds ahead of her compatriot, Kennedy, who claimed third finest spot by submitting a time of 25.40 seconds.
Herrmann was very excited after achieving top qualifying position of the event while the arena enjoyed neck-to-neck efforts of all participants.
Furthermore, these finalists will compete with each in the final round to prove their mettle for the podium finish.
