Grad school graduation party..?

I just graduated with my Master's degree.. my mom is throwing a party for me. Im curious if I should expect gifts. I am in desperate need of money! But I have a feeling people arent as likely to bring gifts since its graduation from grad school; HS and undergraduate seems most ideal for gifts. Thoughts?

  1. Expect gifts/cash mostly from family members.

  2. nahh you're expected to expect gifts.

just ask your mom if she thinks people are planning on bringing gifts and if she says yeah then you can tell her to tell them you are in desperate need of money.

    everyone will understand.

  3. Tell your mom to suggest money, if anyone asks her:) .... other than that, there's really nothing you can do about what you receive:)  (You can always sell what you get on eBay:)

  4. Are the guests the SAME ppl who gave you presents when you graduated from kindergarten, 1st grad, 8th grade, HS, college?

Was that a BS in college?  (ahem, get the point?).

I suggest you walk around and BE THANKFUL anyone showed up at all (esp after you having an arm full of graduations already) by thanking each of them profusely.

BTW, congrats on the degree.  Only a few more years to go for the pretty hard degree (PhD).  ;)

    HTH.

  5. No, of course you can expect gifts.  It's a celebration! What you need to do is confide in a close friend to drop hints to people that might be coming... nothing blatantly obvious though, that turns people off.
