Should I....

A. Talk to a chancellor or professor and tell them my situation and tell them that I cannot pay right now but I will like to further my education

B. Ask them to put me on a payment plan... file for financial aid.

C. take a break... work to get more money then come back to school a year later when my finances may be better

  1. Probably B then D. A won't do anything and C is not a great option if you're almost done with grad school anyway and you're about to start making good money.

  2. You wont accomplish anything talking to the professors or chancellors office.  This is an issue you need to take up with your financial aid office.  Many schools will assist you with emergency financial aid to cover holds on your record and have your tuition paid so you can attend.  This is all a case by case situation so you need to go in and talk to them.  Don't phone or email them; physically go into their office and bring necessary proof of financial documents.

I would not take a leave of absence, but if you absolutely have to, make sure you do it officially.  Else, you will need to reapply from scratch as they see you as a drop-out.  It's best to stay in and finish up.  You don't know what new commitments you might have a year or two from now.  Also, you might lose all motivation to even attend school by that time and so all you've done so far will have been for nothing.
