Grade 1 winner Haynesfield retired to stud at Airdrie

The 5-year-old Steven M. Asmussen trained horse, Haynesfield, signed off his racing career as a grade 1 winner and the eight time stakes winner recorded his biggest win in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park in 2010 is
now retired and will stand as an Airdrie Stud and WinStar Farm Venture for the 2012 breeding season at Brereton and Elizabeth Jones’ Airdrie Stud with the fee of $10,000.
The New York bred son of Speightstown, out of mare Nothing Special by Tejabo, Haynesfield biggest achievement was to become the only horse who had the courage and ability to defeat, Blame, last year by 4 lengths when the stakes couldn’t
be much higher in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup under equal weights.
Before and after, Blame, never lost a race to a horse over his championship career with the exception of, Haynesfield, who also went on to land the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap over his favoured Belmont Park’s dirt course on 3 July,
2010.
Bred by Margaret Santulli and Barry Weisbord, Haynesfield participated in the Empire Classic twice in his career and managed to win the Belmont Park’s 1 1/8 mile race on both occasions. He landed the 2009 edition of the race after
skipping the 2010 edition he got hold of the 2011 field on 22 October, 2011.
“To have won more than half his starts and been a stakes winner at 2, 3, 4, and 5 demonstrates both the outstanding talent and soundness that we believe will make him a top stallion," Jones added. "Both farms are committed to ensuring
he gets the best opportunity possible to make it and we will be supporting him heavily in both the breeding shed and on the race track.”
Son of a very special sire, Speightstown, Haynesfield is by far his most accomplished son by being an absolute top-class race horse, and with a physical and genetic make-up, Haynesfield has all the ingredients to become a successful
stallion himself.
Added Jones, “We believe this horse has a big future and we want to really reward the people that are helping us get there.”
