Grade 1 winner Victor’s Cry and Grade 2 winner Wilburn have been purchased by B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm.
Spendthrift Farm has gone on to spend over two retired runners, the Grade 1 winner Victor’s Cry and the Grade 2 winner Wilburn. Both these horses have retired from racing.
The 3-year-old Kentucky bred Bernardini colt, out of Moonlight Sonata by Carson City, Wilburn in the year 2012 will stand at Lexington based farm.
On the other hand, the six-year-old son of Street Cry, out of Short Time by Clever Trick, will stand with popular company as he will be sent at Michael Byrne's Park Stud near Orangeville, Ontario, Canada for next year’s breeding season.
The older horse will stand with the Breeders’ Cup champion Court Vision.
Shedding a little light on their careers, starting from the 3-year-old imposing colt Wilburn who has gone on to post five wins out of 9 career starts.
Kicking it off at Santa Anita Park, where he broke his maiden in his first attempt, Wilburn than tried to ease things up before joining top company as a 3-year-old he rolled in a couple of allowance claimers’ winning one out of two.
He was then sent out to represent trainer Steven Asmussen in the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes, but couldn’t make a huge impact as he finished 4th on the day.
With another stumble, Wilburn got back to allowance claimers and started getting back in to the winning groove.
With one win came many as he bagged the Smarty Jones Stakes and then onwards kept rolling the dice under J Leparoux to land his first Grade 2 win, in the Indiana Derby over at 1 1/16 miles on 1 October, 2011.
Victor’s Cry last ran in July in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile, while despite heavy competition he managed to finish on the board behind the winner Courageous Cat and runner up Caracortado.
He was coming in the Shoemaker Mile from a trip to Dubai where he participated in the Grade 1 Dubai Duty Free and finished fifth.
Victory’s Cry won the 2010 edition of the Shoemaker Mile, as he ended the 2010 season on a high with a win in the Grade 1 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park.
