Grade seven science, chemical and physical changes.

Microwave ovens cook food quickly. Using the particle model ( liquids, gas, solids, particles,) to explain why they cook food so quickly.

  1. microwaves vibrate the molecules in the food, which leads to friction between them... and gets hot... hence it cooks food quickly... the food cooks from the outside in because wave energy hits the outside first and then the heat energy moves via conduction to the inside


  2. In the simplest of terms, the microwaves cause the water molecules in the food to vibrate, rotate which leads to heat.

    2) In a microwave oven, the food is heated all around I mean from all the sides. While on a stove, the food is heated from below to its top.
