I just need to know, if a child - age 13 - is enrolling into an international school in Kiev, which GRADE will they be in? People tell me grading is different in Kiev to other countries.

Thanks in advance!

  1. A 13 year old will be in the 8th "form" in Kyiv, which is equivalent to 8th grade in the US. However, the teaching likely will be at the 9th or 10th grade level, compared to the US.

As an example, my 7 year old just entered 2nd grade in the US (after spending K, 1, and most of 2 in Ukraine), and she is learning things she learned in Kindergarten in Ukraine.

As to grading progress in classes, in government schools:

K-4th grade, they use "poor, fair, good, excellent" only.

5-11th grade, they use a 4 point scale (2-5) which equate to the "poor-excellent" grades.

The international schools may or may not use the same grading system.
