  1. If you are having trouble grading 2nd grade math... you may want to consider having someone else "teach" math.

  2. Simple; any number can represent 100%

If there are 25 problems 25=100%

If he/she missed 5 divide 100 by 25 times that answer by the amount he missed (5), subtract that answer from 100%

    100 : 25=4x5=20

    100-20=80

    grade 80%

    In your example 100 : 20x11=55

    55% = F

    90 - 100  A

    80 -   90  B

    70 -   80  C

    60 -   70  D

    Below 60 F

  3. You need to figure a percentage first.  If he got 11 wrong out of 20 then you divide 11 by 20, which is 0.55, or 55%.

Here is how percentages translate into letter grades in most schools.

    90-100% = A

    80-89% = B

    70-79% = C

    60-69% = D

    Below 60% = F

So if your son got 11 wrong out of 20, he needs to re-study that lesson, because he failed it.

You can buy a little wheel called an EZ Grader long ranger, that will make things much quicker when grading.  Its available from most teacher supply stores, or from http://www.schoolbox.com/Long-Range-E-Z-...

    EDIT------ EDIT------ EDIT------- EDIT

I realized I made an error, you said 11 wrong, and I figured it as 11 right.  What should have been done is to divide 9 by 20, since he got nine correct.  That would give you 0.45 or 45%, which is still an F.  You divide the number correct by the number possible, I knew that, its just that I made a silly mistake before, sorry.  (See thats why I use the EZ-Grader!)

  4. There are several home school based sites. Google home school and several will appear. If you are using a homeschool curriculum it should give you how this process should be accomplished. I usually grade by percentile, add the total number of problems and detract the number missed. (EX. there are 10 problems and 2 were missed the score would be 80.)If this is too much visit the local school store and purchase an EZ Grader. It works on the same principal but you don't have to do all of the calculating.

  5. Even though I'm in 12th grade, I like it when teachers take off a half point for each mistake instead of making the entire problem wrong just for one small mistake. So for each wrong step, just take off a half of a point.
