  1. I think everyone should be held to the same standards, otherwise grades are meaningless...

  2. A little bit, but not to a point where they start to think somethings wrong w/them, of that they know they can get away w/not doing their best.

  3. nope! when it comes to education, all students deserve an equal grading system. But yes, encouraging them is a better option.

  4. If the child is having a very hard time then yes.

If the child just doesn't want to do the work and uses it as an excuse to not do the homework then no.

  5. No, but certain accommodations need to be made regardless of whether the student is in special ed. or not. The teacher should closely follow the student's IEP, and the IEP should be compiled by both the parent, student, teachers, and any specialists involved as a TEAM. It should list clear, specific accomodations needed to meet goals, and the teachers NEED to follow it. Too many teachers in today's public schools neglect to pay any attention to a student's IEP.

  6. No.  The student may be eligible for services through Vocational Rehabilitation, and the university will have a center dedicated to students with disabilities that can provide services and mandate accommodations.  Those accommodations, such as extra time on tests, are designed to level the playing field, so to speak.  It is the student's responsibility to apply for those services.  Further, these services and accommodations create the opportunity for the student to succeed, that is all.  Grading criteria should be the same for all students; to do otherwise likely violates a university policy.

  7. A TEAHCER SHOULD JUST MAKE IT EASY ON HIMSELF AND GIVE EVERYONES a+

  8. Yes.

  9. No, if they are in the same class as students who don't have disabilities, then it is only fair to grade the same way.

  10. Absolutely, however, it is the responsibility of the student or students parents to "prove" the disorder before lenience is taken. . .

  11. It would really depend on the disorder. But basically no, all the students should do the same work for the same grades. If the student in question can't handle the normal workload, then maybe that student should not be in that class.

  12. What would be the point? You're just setting up false expectations. It is no kindness to do this.

  13. i dont think so because i think the kids with mental disorders should be in special classes

  14. No. If they are in University, they have proven they are mentally capable. You should give them the extra time to get their work done. Your marking their work, not them.
