Hi, I have applied and been offered a place for the PostGraduate Diploma in Economics at Royal Holloway and was wondering if anyone had done this course? I am mostly worried that I might find the subjects quite difficult to grasp as I haven't done any economics or math since school which was 5 years ago and all the modules they offer seem to include assume good knowledge of a lot of stats and maths.

Also I have asked this previously, but does anyone have experience of commuting from central London to RHUL (i just signed a lease with my friends so not planning on moving to Egham)

Cheers for you help

  1. A formal knowledge of mathematics and statistics is required. However, economics should not be thought of as a solely mathematical subject area - its essence is more logical than mathematical.

  2. The course description should contain some requirements/pre-requisites. I'd imagine since it's postgrad you'd need some understanding of maths/economics, but as to what level it's hard to say without seeing a course description (which holloway usually have). alternatively you could try calling up one of the departments admissions team? they're usually alright to talk to in my experience.

As I mentioned London to Egham isn't too bad, trains run from waterloo fairly regularly. The train from london to reading runs every half hour (maybe more at peak times) and take about 35 minutes.

You can also get on from another london station and change at clapham or richmond to get on this. Alternatively you can catch the district line to richmond and change there if you more towards the west of london.
