Grady Sizemore to play at centre-field against Kansas City Royals – MLB News
Finally, Grady Sizemore has been awarded what he was hoping for in spring training for his next game. He made his debut as designated hitter on Monday against Arizona Diamondbacks after recovering from shoulder injury that he had arthroscopic surgery in
June.
The three-time All-Star Sizemore was expecting to play at centre-field after a 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona. He only had two scoreless hits off Diamondbacks starter Armando Galarraga, still manager Manny Acta
was pleased of his recovery. Now the American League Central franchise Indians’ officials have confirmed him at centre.
"He's in a good spot," Acta said. "He's feeling pretty good. It's a day-to-day thing. We just have to see how he shows up the very next day."
Though he has been slated his desired location, his availability in opening day is still under doubt, according to club sources. The team has serious concerns over his rehab process and trying to get him to optimum fitness levels soon. However, a clear indication
has been made that he will not be available on opening day.
Keeping his condition in mind, the Indians have devised a new plan of putting Shin-Soo Choo in right and Austin Kearns in left. The 23-year-old left-handed out-fielder Brantley, who have .246-career average, is likely to replace Sizemore at centre.
Travis Buck, who was a spring invite of the Indians has 18-43 record with a .419 batting average with two home-runs in 15 games this spring, might be scheduled as the fourth out-fielder for opening day. He holds the third rank in American League in averages
and fourth in hits.
Indians have been having a considerably good spring as they have a 10-11 record. On Monday, the Indians will travel to Surprise Arizona to take on the Kansas City Royals. Indians have scheduled Josh Tomlin to face Royals’ Luke Hochevar. Tomlin will make
his second start and forth appearance of the 2011 exhibition season. He started the Cactus League opener last month on February 27 against the Cincinnati Reds when he allowed one run in three innings.
It will be interesting to see how Sizemore is able to prove himself fit for opening day.
