Grady Sizemore’s return to Cleveland Indians – MLB Special
Outfielder Grady Sizemore’s return into the Cleveland Indians roster is not only a very positive step from the Indians’ management. It is also a very intelligent move that will certainly determine the constructive output next season where every MLB team
is determined to give a tough time to their opponents.
The presence of Grady Sizemore in the Indians franchise will benefit in two ways. Firstly, he relatively has good experience in Major League Baseball; secondly he possesses the extraordinary abilities of dominating down the stretch and also known for his
brilliant slugging which often won many games for the Indians in the recent past especially in the last season.
At the end of the 2011 season, when the Indians declined team options on Sizemore making him a free agent to sign with any team in the league, many started speculating that he might not come into the Indians franchise again. His agent clearly mentioned in
the media that his client is looking positive to sign with another MLB team except the Indians. However, after some thought process among the top executives of the Indians’ management, they not only gave him a new one year contract and they told the media
that Sizemore will also be a top priority after the 2012 season as he received only a one year contract.
Later the Indians’ management issued a statement regarding all the matters which led to Sizemore’s one year contract. Their statement clearly suggested that the Indians’ current poor financial instability was the main reason behind why they signed Sizemore
for only one year but his option is still on the cards that they might sign him for some more years in the near future.
Recently when the Indians officially signed Sizemore, their GM commented in the media with huge admiration for him. The Indians’ general manager Chris Antonetti said regarding signing Sizemore, “We're obviously optimistic; we know that when he's been on
the field, he's been very productive player. It’s not going to be for 155 or 160 games per year, but we feel optimistic Grady will get back to the point that he is a very good player for us.”
Sizemore’s agent Joe Urbon was also very happy over his client’s new contract and said in the media, “The Indians were aggressive in wanting to keep Grady; He appreciates the interest from other clubs, and just felt that the best place to reassert himself
as a great player is in Cleveland. He can stay in centre field, which is important to him, and he has enjoyed his time there.”
Since Sizemore has become a part of the Indians’ roster again, the entire sports media is focusing more on his future playing strategy. His re-signing also linked with the last season’s performance where he went a .224 batting average, along with 10 home-runs,
32 RBIs and a .285 OBP. This was quite a good performance where so many others could not play that well. His overall career stats of .269 batting average, with 139 home-runs, 458 RBIs and .357 OBP also show a very bright picture and suggests he will improve
in the future upon his numbers.
