Graeme A. Clark gets into contention at the ECCO Tour Championship
Graeme A. Clark signed a superb six-under par round of 66 to race into the third position through the second day at the ECCO Tour Championship hosted by Thomas Björn & Mercedes-Benz in Horsens, Denmark.
Clark got off to a confident start, as he birdied the opening hole (No. 10) followed by a stunning eagle on the 11th hole. Another two birdies on the 13th and 15th hole moved him to five-under par.
Thereafter, he slowed down and recorded only one birdie along with 11 pars to end the day with a seven-under par overall score.
According to him, he started off the round with a positive frame of mind and attacked every pin that came his way. However, the rain in the afternoon forced him to choose a defensive strategy for the rest of the round after.
He told that he could have gone higher with his score if he had tried to attack the greens during the post-rain session.
“I got off to a really quick start, and managed to keep it going for the rest of the round,” he said. “I was five under through six, which was good going because it was pretty grim at times in the rain”.
“For the back nine the rain stopped, but it hadn’t really softened up the greens so you couldn’t afford to attack the pins – you still had to be careful because if you get out of position on the greens here you can find yourself in all kinds of trouble,”
he continued.
According to him, he posted a reasonably good score on the leaderboard, despite the fact that he was five strokes behind the pace set by Klas Eriksson at 12-under par.
He told that he had been playing good golf for the last one week. Therefore, he is confident to keep the momentum going into the final two rounds and challenge the players ahead of him.
“I played quite well last week, so a round like this has been coming,” he said. “Hopefully I can just keep it going for the next two days now”.
In the meantime, Eriksson (62) and Jordi Garcia Pinto (65) took the first and second spots on the leaderboard, respectively.
