Graeme Dott believes his mistakes cost him quarter-final of 2012 Wuxi Classic against Mark Davis
All big guns of the game, who were top contenders to clinch the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament, faced brutal defeats in the quarter-final stage of the event. However, the comparatively less experienced but talented potters triumphed over them to reach
the semi-final stage.
England’s Mark Davis is also one of those stunning cuemen who booked his semi-final spot after trashing the former World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, Graeme Dott by the score line of 5-0.
Dott had the chance to grab the lead early in the game when he was ahead in the first two frames but a couple of silly mistakes pushed him down and Davis took advantage of that to hit the lead. After that he did not give any chance to Dott to get back into
the game. Dott believes that his mistakes caused him trouble in the end and he failed to spring back into the game.
HW spoke to World Snooker after his quarter-final match, “I threw away the first two frames. I think if I'd won one of the first two frames it would've been a totally different match. But after throwing them away the snooker gods don't forgive you when you
make a mess out of it and that's basically why I lost.”
The Scotsman added, “Sometimes, when you're 4-0 down you're playing really bad, but I never felt like that so I still thought I had a chance.”
Dott was in full swing during his event campaign from the start and had performed tremendously in the early stages of the event at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. Dott faced the Chinese Wild Card entrant, Zhou Yuelong in the first round and
played impressively against him to beat him by the score line of 5-1.
His second opponent was Rod Lawler of England, a young promising cueman who qualified for the main tour through 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). After facing tough resistance from the Englishman, Dott was able to win by 5-4 score line to
set up Mark Davis quarter-final clash where he lost to him by a whitewash score of 0-5.
