Graeme Dott disheartened after losing to Joe Perry in 2012 World Snooker Championship
Former World Snooker Championship runner up, Scotland’s Graeme Dott faced a brutal defeat at the hands of England’s Joe Perry in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
Dott was expected to be the winner of the match because he has been a convincing performer in the recent season but he was not able to play according to the standards and slipped down by the score line of 1-10 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
The Scotsman failed to improvise accordingly during the match and tumbled down easily at the hands of Perry. In the first two sessions on the first day, Perry took eight frame wins while Dott could not add even a single frame against the Englishman.
However, the Pocket Dynamo clinched one frame in the third session to save himself from a whitewash defeat while Perry took two frames to win the game 1-10.
Facing such a brutal defeat really broke his heart and he feels that he did not perform the way he expected. He played impressively in the current season but was unable to finish the season properly.
While speaking to World Snooker, Dott said, “I played terrible, I don't think I've played worse, not just at the Crucible but as a professional. I've played bad all year but normally when I come here I play pretty well, but you can't just rely on playing
well here all the time, you're eventually due a stinker, but to play as bad as that is hard to understand.”
Meanwhile, Perry has booked his place in the second round of the event against Scotland’s Stephen Maguire.
Perry spoke about his next opponent, “Stephen's always tough in or out of form but it's going to be especially hard as he's been playing well lately. I don't think anyone would be surprised if he was going to win one [world championship] this year or next
year.”
The match-up between Maguire and Perry will be interesting because the unseeded Perry has showed his class against Dott. Maguire will now be looking to pull up his socks especially after watching the way Perry performed in his first match.
